Originally from Ireland, I am a software engineering leader based in the Greater Pittsburgh area. I write about software engineering, distributed systems, databases, and the teams that build them.
I am the creator of rqlite, the open-source distributed database built on SQLite and used in production by multiple companies. I work at Google, where I manage teams building large-scale observability systems.
My career spans distributed systems, databases, analytics platforms, cloud infrastructure, web services, and SaaS. Earlier work includes consumer electronics, enterprise networking, and carrier-grade telecommunications software.
